VMM 8/10 - Vincent Licata feat Jacinta – Warm Like Summer - Vacate music

Vacate music has been on the scene for a bit and I have heard a few of the tracks released on this label. I particularly like this one for its progressive and unusual play with major and minor chords in some parts of the song.

This track is not your typical uplifting thumping trance track and takes the listener on a more progressive, haunting journey. Like most progressive productions the first 3 minutes of the track is very minimal and a few lyrical lines are sung. The percussion develops in usual manner. My biggest surprise though in the track was in the breakdown where a usual minor chord is switched to a major version which is really interesting. The song is written in G# minor and works around the progression IV,VI, I , III. However, in the breakdown the first chord of the pattern which you expect to be a minor chord is switched to a major chord. The producer also changes the progression at the end of certain phrasing to II,II,I . These changes gives the song a slightly different edge and is an unexpected twist in the production…it’s really nice to hear some originality and creativity.

The mastering and final mixing of the track is also really good and Vincent Licata has used to space in the mix to emphasise different parts really nicely. A great track which can be used early on in any set.
