VMM & Slinky Interview with Judge Jules at the Super Heroes of Slinky Night

VMM teams up with Slinky’s Sam Baxter who caught up with Judge Jules for an Interview back in Feb 2012 to talk about his new music and DJ Career and what’s happening for himin 2012.

The Interview:

By Sam Baxter Slinky

Q: When did you start to DJ professionally? Was it something you always knew you would end up doing?

JJ: It definitely wasn’t the plan of my parents, who at the time of my DJ career launching were rather skeptical. I started DJ’ing in the early 90’s whilst still at university in London. I started promoting my own parties and had my own show on an underground pirate radio station, the rest is history…

Q: What style of sets are you currently playing? Trance, House, Electro – or would you say you enjoy oscillating between lots of different styles?

JJ: It’s hard to pigeon hole my style of music. My core musical sound is definitely in the more Trancey direction.

Q: How long have you had your Radio 1 show now? What is the best perk of the job?

JJ: I’ve been on Radio 1 nearly 15 years. The highlight has definitely been some of the larger outdoor broadcasts.

Q: You’re always travelling whether it’s around the UK or abroad… how do you keep your life straight with all this travel?

JJ:
I try to keep my self fit and healthy, whenever I’m at home I try to go to the gym as often as possible.

Q: You cracked the States a good few years ago now, why do you think so many artists see the US as such an important goal?

JJ: EDM is really just exploding over there, it’s new and exciting. It’s been a long time coming, funnily enough I’m on my way to Las Vegas as we speak!

Q: What do you think of the music scene in Ibiza?

JJ: It’s one of the few places In the world where you can pretty much be at one with your musical style. It’s all about showcasing your sound, Ibiza is 100% the best platform for any DJ.

Q: Do unsigned artists ever contact you for advice on how to make it in the dance music industry?

JJ: On a daily basis! I do my best to reply to every email received, I know how hard it is to get started…

Q: What does 2012 hold for you?

JJ: I’ve just signed a new single to Vandit which I’m very excited about. I also have a backlog of singles which will be winging their way out over the early portion of 2012.
